Cannes Film Festival 2025

The first room that proved the model.

The red carpet arrivals under the 74e Festival International du Film Cannes marquee. The setting for the first Shifter(s) gathering
Shifter(s) Series01

The first Shifter(s) gathering took place during the Cannes Film Festival in 2025. Filmmaker Ari Aster and producer Lars Knudsen sat down for a candid conversation about creative partnership, the making of Eddington, and what it takes to protect an original point of view in an industry built around scale. The room brought together filmmakers, producers, financiers, studio leaders, and independent operators who care deeply about where cinema is going next.

Why it mattered

This was the proof of concept. Could a gathering built around a genuinely meaningful conversation create real momentum without relying on spectacle? The answer was yes. The room was full of people who came to listen, connect, and leave with a clearer sense of who they needed to know next.

What happened in the room

The guest list was built with care. The programming was specific. The conversation had substance. There was no filler. Just filmmakers, financiers, executives, and creative leaders who were there for the same reason. To be part of a conversation worth having.

The Future of Storytelling meets a living canvas of sound.

Shifter(s) Series · November 2025 · Los Angeles, California19 frames · click to expand

A Sunday takeover of Juniper Gardens at 1 Hotel West Hollywood during the American Film Market. The day began with conversations about women shaping storytelling, creative ownership, and the future of entertainment. As the sun went down, the programming shifted into Rhythm Garden, bringing Afro House, Afrobeats, Amapiano, and global sounds into the center of the experience.

What happened in the room

The day moved like one continuous story. Panels led into a fireside conversation. The fireside opened into the lounge. The lounge turned into Rhythm Garden. Guests stayed because the energy kept building, and because the room kept giving them reasons to connect.

Sundance x Kickstarter 26'

The independent film industry's most important conversation of the year.

Shifter(s) Series · January 2026 · Park City, Utah11 frames · click to expand

A Sundance activation with Kickstarter built around a single idea: the next era of filmmaking belongs to creators who give themselves the green light. Studio consolidation, budget cuts, and shifting distribution have made traditional funding paths harder to walk. The room gathered filmmakers, editors, and platform leaders proving there is more than one way to get a film funded, finished, and in front of an audience.

What happened in the room

One tight panel, one full Shifter(s) Lounge cocktail mixer, one continuous conversation. 900 RSVPs, 200 seats, and every seat filled with someone who had a reason to be there. Over 20 new film project submissions to Kickstarter's creative campaign came directly from the conversations that started in this room.

The Future of Film is Self Made

Giving Yourself the Green Light

Studio consolidation and shrinking traditional funding have left too many filmmakers waiting on permission. This panel dug into how creators are using community, creative scrappiness, and alternative funding models like Kickstarter to get work funded, finished, and distributed on their own terms.

Cannes Film Festival 2026

The Power (S)hift lands on the Main Stage at the Palais.

Shifter(s) Series × Winston Baker · May 2026 · Cannes, France08 frames · click to expand

The second annual Shifter(s) Series activation at the Cannes Film Festival, produced in exclusive partnership with Winston Baker at the 16th Annual International Film Finance Forum. On the Main Stage at the Palais des Festivals, in Partnership with the Marché du Film, we brought the Series ethos into one of the most important rooms in global cinema: creator ownership, financeable IP, and what it actually takes to build a lasting brand out of a story.

What happened in the room

The room came together for The Power (S)hift: Creator Economy, From Story to Global Brand. Tyler Sabino moderated a conversation with Vic Mensa, Brendan McCafferty, and Edgar Esteves that moved past the buzzwords and into the real mechanics of the creator economy, how IP gets valued, how it gets financed, and how the most ambitious creators are turning audience loyalty into lasting global brands without surrendering creative control. The centerpiece was Vic and Edgar walking the Palais through Halfrican, the forthcoming original IP they are building together, a bold story exploring identity, citizenship, and what happens when people trapped inside the same system turn on one another instead of confronting the structure that confines them. Bringing that project to the Main Stage put a creator owned, culturally rooted piece of IP in front of the exact rooms of financiers, studios, and international partners it was built to reach.
